Markers to be sold again for Heritage Hall

The Heritage Hall Development Committee has announced the reopening of the sale of memorial markers in the Heritage Courtyard at 118 School Street in Bonne Terre. Over the years the area has become a historical ledger of families and business that have been a part of Bonne Terre.

The courtyard was developed in 1995 as a memorial where families can have engraved stone or brick markers placed to remember their family members as part of the history of the city. At the current time more than 140 families have placed memorial markers in the courtyard. In addition, several local businesses have purchased stones to mark their place in the history of Bonne Terre.

It has been more than two years since the committee has accepted new memorials.

“In the last couple of months we have been contacted by some families interested in buying a memorial. So we have decided we will open the sale for these once more,” Joyce Calvert, project chairperson said.

The 8 inch by 16 inch stones are $500 and that includes the stone, all engraving and placement in the courtyard. In addition, the family gets a certificate noting a stone has been placed in the courtyard in their honor. While there are some limits on what can be put on the stone, in general the stone can contain several names and information about the family or person being honored. For a slight additional fee color can be added to the engraving on the stone.

The brick is $100 and is limited to three lines. This price includes the brick, the engraving, plus a certificate made out to the honoree. No color can be added to the brick.

All proceeds, above the cost of the brick and stones, are to fund the development of Heritage Hall. The hall is owned by the not-for-profit group Bonne Terre Services, Inc. This is an IRS approved not-for-profit 501(c) 3 corporation. The cost of the brick or stone, over and above the value of the item, may be tax deductible. Those interested in the tax issue information on the value may obtain it prior to the sale in order to check with a tax consultant.

Orders will be taken for the stones and bricks until the end of May.

To order a stone or brick call 358-2314 or 358-3515. Order forms may be picked up at the Well Life Center at Heritage Hall, the Bonne Terre Chamber of Commerce, the Bonne Terre Library or Bonne Terre City Hall.
