De Soto edges West County and Central in competitive golf match
FARMINGTON – Cool, wet conditions made things tough on golfers at Eagle Lake Golf Club on Friday as Central hosted West County and De Soto in a tri-match.
The three teams proved to be very evenly matched as only six strokes separated them. De Soto won the battle with a score of 192. West County closely followed with a team total of 194, and earned a conference win by topping Central’s score of 198.
Brandon Shannon of De Soto was the medalist of the match with a round of 43. That performance led directly to the Dragons’ separation from the pack.
West County got its low score of the day from Chris Crocker with a 46. Jeremy Stobart finished one stroke behind Crocker with a 47. Sam Luebbers posted a 50, while Nick LaPlante scored a 51 to round out the Bulldogs’ scores.
One stroke made the difference in the top four scores for Central. Keith Huff and Jimmy Guinn each fired rounds of 49, while Grayson Clark and Scott Marler added scores of 50.
West County (3-2) will play a conference quad-match on Tuesday on its home course at Terre Du Lac, facing North County, Fredericktown, and Valle. Central (4-5) will travel to Ste. Genevieve on Tuesday.
Ste. Genevieve 168, Potosi 172
STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Dragons golf squad hosted Potosi Friday afternoon in a conference matchup, winning the contest 168-172.
Ste. Genevieve’s Tim Taylor was the tournament medalist with a low score of 37 while teammate Aaron DeRousse shot a 41. Justin Kertzshot posted a score of 44 and Ronnie Siebert and Adam Schmelzle each shots 46s.
Brett DeClue shot the lowest score of the day for Potosi with a 38 while Ryan Portell finished with a 44. Sean Martin and Ryan Eye rounded out the scores that counted for the team’s final score with 45s.
Ste. Genevieve improves to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference. The Dragons next play on Monday when they travel to Fredericktown to face the Blackcats.
Potosi falls to 3-3 overall and 2-2 on the season. The Trojans return to action on Tuesday when they join Perryville for a tri-match at Farmington.
