Delbert E. ‘Pud’ McFarland
KELL — Delbert E. “Pud” McFarland, age 92, of Centralia, Ill., passed away at 12:45 a.m., Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia.
He was born March 5, 1912, in Doe Run. The son of Norman and Lavinia (Warden) McFarland. On Dec. 5, 1959, he married Ola Griggs in Annapolis and she survives in Centralia.
In addition to his wife OIa, he is survived by two sons and a daughter: George McFarland and wife Virginia of Park Hills; Donald McFarland and wife Judy also of Park Hills; and Mary Belle McFarland of Farmington. He is also survived by a brother and a sister, Lawrence “Buck” McFarland of Herculaneum; and Florence Johnson of Festus; and by grandchildren: Dale, Mike, April, Jackie, Dawn and David; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. McFarland was preceded in death by: His parents, his first wife Mary N. Curlee McFarland and a son Elmo McFarland; by five brothers: Cecil “Quail” McFarland, Arch McFarland, Clarence “Red” McFarland, Edward “Jack” McFarland, Clifford “Nip” McFarland; and by four sisters: Alice, Lorraine “Jean”, Mamie and Jesslyn.
Mr. McFarland had been a teamster and a farmer before retirement and was an active member of the Kell Baptist Church. He had also served on the Parents Advisory Committee for the Murray Center in Centralia.
Visitation for Mr. Delbert “Pud” McFarland will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday evening at the L. R. Osborn and Son Funeral Home in Kell. Funeral Services will be Friday evening at 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home with the Reverend Jerry Montgomery officiating. Committal will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Doe Run Cemetery.
