Sharks, Rockets, Wolves post wins in Bantam League action

BONNE TERRE – The Leadwood Sharks only managed to get one hit on Thursday, but it was enough for a 3-0 road win over the Bonne Terre Bombers.

The game was scoreless until the second inning, when Gavin Brines delivered a big two-run triple to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead. They would add another run in the fourth. Douglass Lawson struck out eight batters in the victory for the Sharks.

Jace Burt struck out 14 and allowed one hit on the mound for the Bombers. Jacob Whitwell, Drew Skaggs, and Burt all singled in the game.

The Sharks will travel to Farmington on Monday to face the Outlaws. The Bombers will play the Rockets in Park Hills on Monday.

Wolves 9, Oilers 0

PARK HILLS – The Park Hills Wolves put together an eight-run outburst in the third inning on Thursday to win their season opener, 9-0 over the Valley Oilers in Park Hills.

Jacob Marshall struck out nine batters over four strong innings to earn the win for the Wolves. Austin Johnson struck out two in his inning of relief, and also smacked a double in the game. Zachary Bland and Colton Bryan each had singles for the Wolves.

The Wolves (1-0) will host the Farmington Redbirds on Tuesday. The Oilers will meet the Bombers in Bonne Terre on Thursday.

Rockets 18, Gators 0

Nine Gators came to the plate for Park Hills in their game with the Park Hills Rockets, and eight went down swinging and one hit a pop fly as the Rockets’ winning pitcher Jake Rhodes and reliever Brayden Manion combined for even a more perfect game than Randy Johnson pitched last week.

Riley Calvird, Pierce Daniels, and Colin Bess all had two hits in the game for the Royals, and Levi Ragsdale hit a double.

The Rockets, 2-0, will play next at home on Monday against the Bonne Terre Bombers. The Gators will be at home on Monday to face the Potosi Yellow Jackets.

CAL RIPKEN LEAGUE

Longhorns 8, Steamers 0

CALEDONIA – The Farmington Longhorns scored three runs in third and fifth innings, and also got a superb pitching performance from Colton Pigg to defeat the Valley Steamers, 8-0 in Caledonia.

Pigg gave up only one hit while striking out 16 batters over six innings for the win. Pigg also had a good day at the plate, going 2-2 with a triple.

Josh Gann went 2-4 with a triple for the Longhorns. Kyle Warren, Justin Heberlie, Nathan Wulfert, and John Reed all collected singles. A.J. Pierce doubled in the fourth inning for the lone Valley hit of the contest.

The Longhorns (1-0) will host the Bonne Terre Blues on Tuesday. The Steamers will host the Park Hills Royals on Tuesday.

Yankees 19, Royals 2

DESLOGE – Thursday was a big offensive night for the Desloge Yankees at home. A seven-run explosion in the fourth inning highlighted the Yankees’ 19-2 victory over the Park Hills Royals at Brightwell Park.

Tanner Beers surrendered just two hits while striking out nine hitters over five innings to earn the victory. His teammates backed him up with 12 total hits.

Brian Jaco went 4-4 including two triples for a big game at the plate. Aaron Parker pitched in with a three-run homer, while Cody Mahurin tripled, and Beers doubled.

The Yankees also got one single each from Derek Emily, Lucas Hicks, Justin Ruby, Ryan Holland, and Zachary Franklin. Jeff Counts and Levi Sutton each had one hit for the Royals.

The Yankees (2-0) are scheduled to host the Farmington Padres on Tuesday. The Royals will travel to Caledonia on Tuesday for a game against the Steamers.

Padres 11, Twins 4

BISMARCK – The Farmington Longhorns opened their season in excellent fashion on Thursday with an 11-4 road win over the Bismarck Twins.

Pete Grindel struck out 11 batters, and tossed four hitless innings to earn the victory on the mound. Ethan Bullard pitched the final two frames for the Padres, allowing two hits while striking out three.

Bullard and Grindel each collected a double and a single in the game. Zach Hibbits added a pair of singles, while Logan Bradley, Phillip Kreitler, and Drew Fuemmeler each had one single. Levi Barton and Matt Franklin each had hits for the Twins.

The Padres (1-0) will travel to Desloge on Tuesday to play the Yankees. The Twins (0-1) will face the Angels in Farmington on Tuesday.
