Reporting summer league baseball and softball
With high school baseball finishing up this past week , the Daily Journal sports department will begin again its focus on summer leagues in baseball and softball. Because of the wideness of scope and variety of leagues, the Daily Journal is restricted in its coverage, due to the fact of having only three reporters in the department and only two sports pages for each day.
Travel League
As in the past the Daily Journal will cover the Mineral Area Baseball Association with write-ups and on-site coverage of Bantam though Senior Babe Ruth games. The reason for this is because these teams represent whole communities playing against other community teams.
For the Daily Journal to cover a game, it must have on file the schedule for that league. For a game to be printed in the paper, a roster of the team must be on file with the Daily Journal. Coaches should call the paper at 431-2010, ext. 3 on the night of the game to give their results. Failure to do so, may well mean that the game will not be published. Coaches will not be called by the sports department for the results.
Area Teams
This year the Daily Journal will cover the Farmington Flames, a semi-pro team starting their first season of play.
The Daily Journal will also cover the Farmington Patriots, an American Legion team comprised of 16-19 year old players from around the area.
City Leagues
The Daily Journal will publish the standings and results of city softball and baseball leagues if they are submitted weekly to the paper by the league either by phone 431-2010, ext. 3 or by FAX 431-7640. Scores and results of individual city league games should not be called in to the paper.
