Dolphins put abrupt end to Pumas’ win streak
FARMINGTON – The Farmington Dolphins strengthened their hold on second place in the Junior Babe Ruth American Division standings with a 5-0 win at home over the Potosi Pumas on Wednesday. The Pumas entered the game on a six-game winning streak.
Waylon Gonz was in command on the mound for the Dolphins, allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out three in the complete-game victory.
Nick Pothetos had a big night at the plate with a perfect 3-3 showing, including a double. Eric Koppeis was 3-4 with a double and Nick Hoehn was 2-3. Cragon McBride and Taylor also had one double, while Gonz picked up a single.
Nathan McColloch, Chris Harl, and Bob White each had a single for the Pumas. White gave 11 hits and recorded four strikeouts over six innings in defeat.
The Dolphins (8-2) will play the Farmington Falcons on Tuesday. The Pumas (6-2) will travel to Bismarck on Friday to meet the Tigers.
Falcons 19, Phillies 1
FARMINGTON – The Farmington Falcons evened their season record on Tuesday with a big 19-1 victory at home over the Park Hills Phillies.
Shawn Slinkard singled in the contest and was also the winning pitcher for the Falcons. Logan Stevens was 2-2 with a double and Stevan Rodgers and Derek Smallen were each 2-3 with a double.
Adam Blum chipped in two hits including a triple. The Falcons had one single each from Matt Smallen, Derek Franklin, Gene Williams and Hailey Thomas.
The Falcons (5-5) will battle the Dolphins on Tuesday. The Phillies (1-7) will play the Chargers in Ironton on Tuesday.
SENIOR BABE RUTH
Pirates 10, Bucs 0
LEADWOOD – The Leadwood Pirates slugged 12 hits, including three home runs while pitcher Aaron Byington dominated on the mound for a 10-0 victory at home over the Ste. Genevieve Bucs on Wednesday.
Byington posted 15 strikeouts over six innings, allowing just two walks and two hits. He also went 2-3 at the plate with a home run. Kellen Basler took the loss for the Bucs.
Preston Gross led all players by going 3-4 with a pair of doubles. Adam Howard added a two-run homer and a double to finish 2-4. Lucas Hulsey highlighted a five-run third inning with a three-run shot.
The Pirates also got a double from Grant Becker and singles from Tyler Henson, Scott Hubbard and Alan Hickman. Houston Meyer and Scott Burle had the only hits for the Bucs.
The Pirates (9-1) will host another showdown against the North County Indians on Friday night. The Bucs (5-4) will host the Arcadia Valley Cyclones for a double-header on Friday.
CAL RIPKEN LEAGUE
Longhorns 4, Blues 2
BONNE TERRE – The Farmington Longhorns scored early and held on for a hard-fought win on the road Wednesday, doubling up the Blues 4-2 in Bonne Terre.
Donny Chandler struck out seven batters over four innings to earn the win for the Longhorns. Josh Gann pitched the final two innings to earn the save.
Shane Sweeney singled twice and collected two RBI for the Longhorns. John Reed drove in one run with a pair of singles. Chandler added a double, while Connor Devault and Brian Koppeis each had singles.
Ryan Gibson struck out five batters over four innings for the Blues. Nick Basler tossed two shutout innings in relief. Britt Block, Dilyn Pipken, Connor Crocker and Basler each had one single.
The Longhorns (5-5) will host the Park Hills Royals on Friday. The Blues (3-7) are back in action at home tonight against the Arcadia Valley Cougars.
