Lady Cardinals win fourth in a row
ST. LOUIS – The Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals started out a little slow in Wednesday’s match-up at Meramec College, but when they got their game into gear, they hit on all cylinders to take a 25-30, 30-26, 30-25, 30-20 win over the Lady Magic. It marked the Lady Cardinals fourth win in a row.
“We came out a little bit sluggish in the first game,” said MAC coach Cindy Martin. “They set the ball off the net, and our blocking didn’t adjust well until the middle of the second game.”
MAC’s attack wore down the Lady Magic. Jane Latu nailed down 13 kills to lead the team, Jessica Wines had 11 kills and Colleen Crider had nine. Ali Tyson set up 21 of the kills and Murdick set up 17.
Coach Martin cited her team’s training as being their best ally. “Our conditioning really paid off tonight,” said Martin. “It was a hard-fought match all the way. We were able to stay strong as they (Meramec) wore down in the later games.”
MAC’s defense came up big as Cassidy Wisdom made 43 digs in the match, and Kelly Kramer was successful on 22.
Mineral Area, 15-4 and 2-1 conference, will play their next matches this Saturday in the Three Rivers Tournament.
