Conference softball teams have bad Monday
Four MAAA softball teams played non-conference on Monday, but none were successful in recording another win. All six teams will be on the field today in conference action.
Union 14, North County 3
DESLOGE — It looked to be a down-to-the-last-inning type of game when the North County Lady Raiders only trailed Union by two runs going into the fifth inning on Monday. But that’s when the roof caved in on the Lady Raiders, and Union scored nine runs in the top of the fifth and then held on for the 14-3 win.
“We were in the game,” said North County coach Steve Elam, who was speaking about the 5-3 score at the end of the fourth inning.
Jessica House, Cassie Jackson, Ann Boyer and Regina Brooks all had one hit for the Lady Raiders. Jamie Penfield struck out five Union batters in her five innings on the mound.
North County will be at Potosi today.
Notre Dame 3, Ste. Genevieve 2
STE. GENEVIEVE — The Notre Dame softball team defeated the Ste. Genevieve Hunters in nine innings of play. The final score was 3-2.
Notre Dame scored one run in the first inning. The Hunters struck back in the fifth inning when Erica Naeger drove in Missy Grimwood, which tied the game 1-1. Although Notre Dame score another run for the lead in the sixth inning, the Hunters tied the game again in the same inning. Hunters’ Kristi Palmer pinch-ran for Shaine Weiler. Grimwood drove in Palmer to tie the game.
The game ended in tragedy for the Hunters as Notre Dame scored the winning run in the ninth inning.
Grimwood led in hits for the Hunters. She was 2-3. Jenna Viox was 2-4, Lindsey Roth was 1-3, and Naeger was 1-2.
Weiler pitched all nine innings for the Hunters. She gave up five hits, two earned runs, and struck out three.
The Hunters (8-7) travel to Central today.
Desoto 11, Potosi 1
DESOTO — Desoto won the softball game against the Potosi Lady Trojans Monday. The final score of 11-1.
Brittany Chazelle and Mary Skiles were the only Lady Trojans that had a hit. Both Lady Trojans had a single.
The Lady Trojans (8-7) host North County today.
Festus 10, Central 2
FESTUS — Festus emerged victorious over the Central Lady Rebels. The final score was 10-2.
Kayla Jaco and Kayla Mabery led in hits for the Lady Rebels, as they were 2-3. Emily Clark and Kristen Gunder were both 2-3.
The Lady Rebels (2-13) host Ste. Genevieve today.
