Melvin Benham

FARMINGTON – Melvin A. “Mel” Benham, 89, passed away November 12, 2004, in Dowagiac, Michigan. Melvin was the son of Charles C. and Sarah Jane ‘Shannon’ Benham. He was preceded in death by his: First wife, of 37 years, Myrtle Virginia ‘Reynolds’ Benham; second wife, of 29 years, Lila Ann ‘Somerholder’ Benham and one son, Gary Anthony Benham. Mel was a former PanAm Navigator; grew up in Flat River, attended the Flat River Christian Church; currently a member of United Community Church of Sun City, Florida. Member, Masonic Lodge and Shriners. Retired after teaching for many years in Missouri and Illinois schools.

Survivors: Daughters: Virginia (Mrs. Rev. John) Kruger, Dowagiac, MI; Debbie (Mrs. Steve) Allen, Barnhart; Mary (Mrs. Tom) LaFranka, Madison, WI; Sons: William (and Shirley) Benham; Robert (and Judy) Benham, both of Rockford, IL. Sister: Gladys Benham, Park Hills. Nineteen Grandchildren.

Visitation Tuesday, 9 a.m. Funeral Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel, Farmington, with Rev. John Kruger officiating. Interment, Bismarck OddFellows Cemetery. Memorials to: Hospice and/or American Cancer Society. Photo obituary online: www.taylorfuneral.com.
