Knights gear up for weekend tournament

FARMINGTON – The first annual First Bank Farmington Duals wrestling tournament is set to take place in Farmington on Saturday. The Knights will host seven other schools in an action-packed day of grappling, beginning at 10 a.m.

The event will give Farmington the opportunity to square off against several schools from Missouri that they rarely compete against. The tournament field will be divided into two pools of four.

Each team will face the four teams from the opposing pool in a normal dual-match format. When those duals are complete, the two clubs with the best records from each pool will then battle head-to-head in an extra meet. The same will occur between the bottom two teams in each pool, meaning that every school will face five separate opponents.

The Black Pool will consist of the host team along with Sikeston, Herculaneum and St. Clair. The Gold Pool contains Odessa, C.B.C., Excelsior Springs and Webster Groves high schools.

“It will be good to get these guys back on the mat, and let them face some new competition,” said Farmington coach Mark Krause.

The Knights have been idle since opening their season on November 30 with a 70-12 win over Sikeston.
