Several file for city, county, school election

Several additional candidates for city, county, and school district seats have filed for April elections in St. Francois County since filing opened Dec. 14. Cutoff date for candidates to file in their respective city, county, or school district offices is Jan. 18.

The following candidates had filed for public office as of Wednesday morning.

St. Francois County

Two new candidates have filed for the two four-year seats on the Health Board. Nancy Bullis and Ronald Bockenkamp are uncontested thus far for the seats. John Poston currently is the only person who filed for the two-year seat.

No additional candidates filed for the ambulance district board, where Ward IV incumbent Jim Snavely remains unopposed. Incumbent Al Sullivan, Jr., and Bobby Johnson previously filed for the Ward I seat on the board.

Bismarck

The Bismarck Board of Aldermen has two seats available in the April election. Incumbent Noah Meade and challenger Clarence King have filed for the seat in Ward III while no one has filed for the seat in Ward I. Both seats carry a two-year term.

Leadington

The City of Leadington has two seats on the Board of Alderman along with the mayor’s position available in the April election. Incumbent Jim Hurt has filed for his seat back in Ward II while Katrina Wakefield has filed for the seat in Ward I. No one has yet to file for the mayor’s position. Each position carries a two-year-term.

Leadwood

The City of Leadwood has the mayor’s position along with two seats on the Board of Aldermen open in the April election. Each seat carries a two-year term. Jim Stahlman is the lone filer for the mayor’s position at this point while Dale Whelehon has filed for the alderman’s seat in Ward II. Thomas Wahlers has filed for the alderman seat in Ward I.

Desloge

The City of Desloge has several positions open in the April election including the mayor’s position and three aldermen seats. Current aldermen Scott Bockenkamp and David Kater have both filed for the mayor’s position. Incumbent Jim Jones has filed to retrieve his seat in Ward I and no one has filed for aldermen seats in Ward III and Ward II. Each seat carries a two-year term.

Farmington

In Farmington, Ward I incumbent Larry Forsythe and Ward IV incumbent Clairann Harrington recently filed for re-election. Farmington has one opening on the council for each of four wards. The mayoral seat also is up for election. In December, Russell “Rusty” Straughan filed for the council seat in Ward II and incumbent mayor Charles Rorex filed for the mayoral seat.

Bonne Terre

In Bonne Terre, two people have filed for one three-year term on the city council. Incumbent Kathy Stegall has filed, as well as Greg Tyree.

Park Hills

Three additional candidates have filed in Park Hills. Daniel Naucke filed for the office of Mayor, a term of four years. Ward I incumbent Jeff Cunningham filed for re-election, as did Ward IV incumbent David Holloway.

Park Hills has one open council seat in each of the city’s four wards, and a one-year unexpired term open in Ward II. The mayoral seat also is on the ballot.

Ward III incumbent councilman Tom Reed filed earlier for re-election.

Bismarck School Board

The Bismarck School Board has three seats available in the April election with each one carrying a three-year term. Incumbent David Moore along with challengers Keith Colwell and Norman Loughary have filed for the seats.

Central School Board

The Central School Board has two board seats available in the April election with each one carrying a three-year term. Incumbents Ken Douglas and Danny Bates have both filed to retrieve their seats along with challengers Bryan Manion and Ronnie Calvird.

Farmington School Board

Farmington School District School Board has three open seats. Each of the three incumbents – Chris Wigger, Larry Sebastian, and Randy Rains – has filed for re-election.

North County School Board

Four people have filed for three seats that are open. Incumbents, Steve Martin and Keith Bannister have filed. In addition, Kelly Briley and Allen Baranovic have filed.

Sunrise R-9 School District

There are four seats open on the Sunrise School Board. Filing for the three-year terms are Rick C. Pica, Callie J. Frew and Yvonne Bromley. Connie Gillam-Rogers has filed for a two-year term.

West County

The West County School Board has three seats available in the April election with each one carrying a three-year term. All three incumbents have filed to retain their seats. John French, Lynn Frago and Clyde Briley Jr. have all filed to retain their seats. The lone challenger that has filed thus far is Dale Whelehon.

Mineral Area College

The Mineral Area College Board of Trustees has two six-year terms available in the April election. Dr. Don VanHerck has filed for his seat and Michael Roark has filed for the seat currently being held by Dr. Jim Hart.
