Daily Journal hosts blood drive Monday

The need for blood is constant – and the need right now is critical.

Recent cancellations of blood drives in the Midwest due to ice storms and flooding have impacted the supply of blood.

That’s why the Daily Journal is hosting a blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday. The blood drive will be held inside the American Red Cross trailer across the street from the Daily Journal, which is located at 1513 St. Joe Drive.

To make an appointment, please call Dwight at 431-2010.

This is the first time the Daily Journal has hosted a blood drive. Because it is the first time, the goal is 15 units.

On the same day, The St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bonne Terre is having a blood drive from 2 to 6 p.m.

The Department of Social Services, 140 Staples Drive in Park Hills, will have a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following day.

Office Max in Farmington will have a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 28. The Farmington Community Civic Center will have a blood drive from 2 to 6 p.m. Feb. 2.

To sponsor your own blood drive, call (877) 873-5510.

Based on the statistic that a blood transfusion is needed every two seconds in America, the Red Cross is encouraging a new national routine of giving blood at least twice a year. A person can give blood every 56 days.

In Missouri, healthy individuals who are at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds are eligible to donate blood. Those donating blood should bring a form of identification.
