Myrtle Bennett

PARK HILLS — Myrtle Irene Webb Bennett of Rolla, Missouri, formerly of Park Hills, Missouri, died Monday, January 17, 2005, at the Rolla Presbyterian Manor. She was 92 years of age.

She was born April 10, 1912, a daughter of William Andrew and Cora Della Buffington Webb, in Birch Tree, Missouri. She was married in November, 1936, in Granite City, Illinois, to J. Edwin Bennett, who preceded her in death in November 1987.

She graduated from Flat River High School and Junior College, attended Southeast Missouri State University and graduated from the University of Missouri with a BS in Education. She began her teaching career at Big Creek School in Shannon County and taught for over 30 years in the Flat River (now Park Hills) school system. She was a former member, elder and church school teacher of the Flat River Christian Church and was a member of the Ozark Highlands Christian Church in Rolla, Missouri.

She is survived by her son, John H. Bennett of Jefferson City, Missouri, a daughter-in-law: Lynda Bennett of Leawood, Kansas, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Former daughter-in-law, Sandy Bennett of Jefferson City, is also among those who cherish rich memories.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and a son, David W. Bennett in December 2000.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 21, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Flat River Christian Church, Park Hills, Missouri with visitation at 1 p.m. at the church. Rev. Mindy Kiepe will officiate. Pallbearers will be John David Bennett, Dale Buffington, Bill Wade, Jimmie Chappell, John Cole, and J.D. Huxman. Honorary Pallbearers are Howard Buffington and James Wade. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the St. Francois Memorial Park in Park Hills, Missouri.

Memorials are suggested to the Presbyterian Manor, 1200 Homelife Plaza, Rolla, Missouri 65401. All arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home, St. James, Missouri.
