Park Hills considers annexations at meeting tonight

The majority of tonight’s Park Hills City Council business focuses on annexation of several parcels of land.

The Council will start by conducting five public hearings to discuss five annexation requests. Interested parties may speak during the hearings at the meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. in City Hall.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has asked the city to annex four parcels of land in two rights-of-way adjacent to U.S. 67 and two rights-of-way adjacent to Highway 32. The remaining parcel includes portions of property along Jennings Road that are owned by the Bonne Terre Columbus Home Company.

No action will be taken at the meeting. However, the Council will address ordinances of annexation on the five requests during the April 12 council meeting.

The Council also will consider two ordinances for annexation of surplus property. One is for a parcel near U.S. 32 and the other was for property along U.S. 67. The Council held public hearings on those parcels last month. As part of a previous agreement, the Missouri Department of Transportation deeded surplus portions of right-of-way to the city. The properties had been set aside for construction of the second extension of the Highway 32 bypass and construction of the Parkway Drive Interchange, but were not used.

In another request, Dr. and Ms. Vallabhaneni have asked the city to annex their land, which is adjacent to Conway Road.

In other business, the council will consider:

  • Amending the municipal code to reflect open meeting changes made in the Missouri Legislature’s 2004 session.
  • Changing wording in the Municipal Code to reflect changes in Missouri’s open records law
  • Approving the city’s proposed street improvement schedule
  • Approving low bidder Hogan Pointing to paint the water tower
  • Obligating the city to pay a 10 percent match toward equipment if the city receives a firefighters grant.
