Reservists honored in Jefferson City

Members of the 1140th Combat Engineer Battalion were honored Thursday by the Missouri legislature.

They were invited to the Capitol by Rep. Jim Avery of St. Louis who is a member of the 1140th which is based in Farmington.

Sen. Kevin Engler of Farmington said about 40 members of the battalion were on hand along with their families. They were given a standing ovation in the state house and senate chambers and toured the Capitol.

Rep. Steve Tilley of Perryville thanked the reservists for their sacrifice.

“It is because of our armed forces personnel and the men and women that preceded them we are allowed to live in a free and democratic country,” said Tilley.

The 1140th was welcomed home at the National Guard Armory in Farmington March 1 after 14 months of deployment to Iraq.
