Mineral Area College nurses sponsor blood drive

An ambitious goal of 400 units has been set for the 7th annual Student Nurses Association Blood Drive April 15 at the Mineral Area College Field House.

At the March meeting of the MAC Board of Trustees, nurses appealed to board members to be among the donors and gave each of them a T-shirt to publicize the event. That’s the same shirt donors will receive when they give.

“This drive is being dedicated to our troops,” explained Esther Blum, nursing instructor. “While the blood won’t be going to them, we want to do this to honor them.”

Appointments between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. may be made now by calling 1-877-DON8NOW (366-8669) or on the Web at: www.givelife.org and use the sponsor code: M-A-C. Walk-ins will be welcome on the day of the drive, but scheduling an appointment will save time.

“Sixty percent of adults can give blood, but only about 5 percent donate,” explained Galen Roberts, with the American Red Cross.

He said there will also be cards available at the drive for donors to sign to send to the troops.

The drive is co-sponsored by KREI/KTJJ.
