Police arrest man following pursuit

BONNE TERRE – A man who stole a car from Jefferson County was arrested in Bonne Terre after a short pursuit.

Bonne Terre Police Chief Doug Calvert said Officer Steve Poole attempted to pull over a 2004 Toyota Solara at about 9:30 p.m. Monday after the driver failed to stop at the stop sign at Division and Highway 47.

He said the driver stopped the vehicle on Pine Street. The officer ran his license plate through Central Dispatch and discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen in Jefferson County.

The 24-year-old man, who told police he currently lives in Bonne Terre, was placed under arrest.

While at the police station, the man struggled with the officer and kicked him in the knee.

Bonne Terre Police are seeking charges of resisting arrest, tampering with a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, and third-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, as well as several traffic violations.
