Wiles wins second match in NCAA Championships

ST. LOUIS – Farmington graduate Dustin Wiles wrestled in the first day of the NCAA National Championships on Thursday held at the Savvis center in St. Louis and after a first-round setback came back to win his second match to keep his hopes alive for at least a third-place medal.

Wiles, a junior at Pennsylvania University, lost a 6-3 decision to Pete Friedl of Illinois in the opening round. Friedl picked up a couple of takedowns late to score the decision win.

The loss dropped Wiles into the consolation bracket where he faced Joe Lowe of NC Greensboro. Wiles was winning by quite a margin when he won the match by fall at the 6:15 mark in the third period.

The win sends Wiles into the Consolation third round where he will face Travis Frick of Lehigh for his first match today in the hopes of advancing into the medal rounds.
