Seminar on labor and wage laws held April 7

Employers who want a better understanding of labor and wage laws may attend a seminar in Leadington at a discounted rate.

The April 7 seminar, presented by KTG Labor Consultants at Elizabeth Hall in Leadington, is co-sponsored by the Park Hills and Desloge chambers of commerce. Usual cost of the one-day workshop is $85 per person. However, cost to participants in this seminar is $25 per company for pre-registered members of either group. There is no limit on the number of representatives from each business. Cost to nonmembers is $40 per business.

Pre-registrations must be received by April 5. Mail or drop off registrations to the Park Hills Chamber, 5 Municipal Drive, Park Hills, 63601-2064 or the Desloge Chamber, 207 N. Desloge Drive, Desloge, 63601.

Cost at the door is $50 per business.

The event begins with registration at 8 a.m., followed by the seminar at 8:30 a.m. It includes a Continental Breakfast and a mid-morning snack. The seminar concludes at noon.

The consultants will focus on new labor and wage regulations and how to comply with state and federal guidelines. Topics include federal time keeping and record keeping requirements; which employees may be salaried and which may be paid hourly; tips on handling accrued vacation time, overtime, discipline and terminations; how to prevent a wage and hour investigation and what one involves; and solutions for the 10 most common wage and hour problems.

Each company at the seminar will receive one free set of Federal Employee Rights posters required by law to be posted in each business. If purchased, the posts cost approximately $50. Each company also will receive a Wage and Hour Workbook.
