MAC Cardinals add two more games to win streak

PARK HILLS – The Mineral Area Cardinals made it four games in a row that they have won with Florissant Valley being their latest victim in a doubleheader on Thursday. Thursday was a very chilly and slightly rainy day, but MAC’s hitting was top notch all day as they overpowered Florissant Valley’s pitching staff, 13-3 and 12-3

Florissant Valley’s only lead of the day came in the first inning of the first game. After a double by Jeff Kolve, Ryan Bledsoe smashed a home run over centerfield fence for a quick 2-0 lead after the first inning.

It wasn’t long before Mineral Area retaliated in the bottom of the second inning. Michael Hall and Ryan Hoffman both drilled two-run homers as the Cardinals swiftly took the lead.

With two men on in the fourth inning, Ryan Dickerman drilled a RBI-single for another run. Marty Clements drove a bases-loaded double to center field for two more runs. An infield error by the Norsemen allowed one more run to cross the plate.

Florissant Valley scored one more run in the fifth inning. David Atkins got things started with a double and a ground ball to first gave Atkins another base. A single by Dan Scanio scored Florissant Valley’s final run of the game.

The Cardinals collected five more runs to end the first game in the fifth inning. A single by Ryan Becker, a hit batsman, and a drawn walk loaded the bases with one out. Ryan Hoffman drove in a pair of runs with a single while Clements drew a walk. A two-RBI single by Sean Bard and a RBI single by Tyler Stahl forced the 10-run rule to go into effect.

The Cardinals kept their fire lit going into the second game. Clements started game two off with a single in the first inning while Bard drew a walk. A RBI-single by Stahl and Scott Hubbard gave the Cardinals a quick 2-0 lead.

Hall drilled his second two-run homer of the day in the second inning. With runners on the corners, Stahl nailed a double to drive in two more runs as the Cardinals led 6-0 after the second inning.

Mineral Area dominated the fifth inning. Stahl knocked in two runs with a single while a double by Kenny Pikula drove in another run. A hit batsman and a sacrifice fly by Joaby Sikes gave MAC two more runs as the Cardinals led 11-0 after the fourth inning.

Florissant Valley delayed the early game finish in the fifth inning. A single by Kolve knocked in two runs to slightly narrow the deficit. Bledsoe drove in Kolve with a single for Florissant Valley’s last run of the afternoon. The Cardinals scored one more run in the fifth inning due to a RBI-single by Pikula.
