Watrous to headline North County Jazz Festival

BONNE TERRE – Bill Watrous, one of the most respected trombonists in the country, will perform with the Mineral Area Kicks Band at 7:30 p.m. April 16.

The North County Jazz Festival concert will be held at North County High School, located on Raider Road in Bonne Terre.

Tickets for the performance are $12. There is no reserved seating.

Tickets purchased for groups of eight or more are $9 and can be purchased by mailing a check or money order, with your name and address, to North County Band Boosters, Riverview Court, Desloge MO 63601. The tickets will be mailed to you.

All proceeds will go toward support of the North County Jazz program.

Watrous has recorded 19 albums and was nominated for a Grammy for his album, “Tiger of San Pedro.” He was voted trombonist of the year seven years in a row by Downbeat Magazine.

Watrous has shared the stage with Woody Herman, Roy Elridge, and Count Basie. In addition, he has been a guest soloist on albums by Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and Arturo Sandoval.

The annual jazz festival will be held all day April 16. High school and middle school bands from across southeast Missouri will attend and a total of 19 bands will perform. Individual outstanding musicianship awards will be given to deserving performers.

The North County High School Jazz Ensemble will perform at 4:45 p.m. Following the performance, a 30-minute clinic with Watrous will be held.

Admission to the school performances throughout the day is free and open to the public.

A spaghetti dinner will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. April 15. Tickets for adults are $5. Tickets for children, 12 and under, are $3.

Dinner will include a buffet-style, all-you-can-eat spaghetti, salad, bread and drink. There will also be dessert.

Live entertainment will be provided by the North County High School Jazz Band and the North County Eighth Grade Jazz Band.
