Eleanor Haaland

Eleanor Marie Francis Haaland, 87, Minneapolis, formerly of Bonne Terre, died April 7, 2005, at Minneapolis, MN. Born April 1, 1918, in Bonne Terre to the late Edward and Susie Silsby Francis. Preceded in death by her husband, Leon Haaland.

Mrs. Haaland grew up in Elvins. After attending junior college in Flat River, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in speech and drama from Central Methodist college in Fayette. Her first job as an English teacher was in Bondurant, IA, where she met Leon Haaland, also a teacher. At retirement, Eleanor and Leon moved back to Bonne Terre to be near relatives. They were active in the Lutheran Church. After Leon’s death in 1985, Eleanor moved to Minneapolis.

She is survived by three children: Pattibeth, Mrs. Michael Johnson of Minneapolis, Anna, Mrs. Carlton Anderson of Richfield, MN, James Haaland and friend, Nicola Witty, of Clarkston WA; sister, Marjorie Ruth Roberts and seven grandchildren.

Visitation 10 a.m. Tuesday at the C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home, Bonne Terre. Services 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Boyer Chapel with Rev. Eddie Bone officiating. Burial at St. Francois Memorial Park. Memorial may be made to Bonne Terre Library.
