Conference golf teams make best of sunshiny day

North County 170, West County 225

TERRE DU LAC – Thursday was a great day for golf as the West County Bulldogs visited the North County Raiders for a conference golf match. North County had the home course and used it to their advantage. The Raiders dominated the Bulldogs 170-225.

West County’s Jordan Miller had the lowest score for his team as he finished with a 50. Sam Luebbers wasn’t too far behind as he had a score of 53. Brandon Dane and Brandon Mahler both shot a 61.

North County’s Jake Black was the medalist of the match with a score of 40. Black’s teammates were not far behind. Brandon Smith finished the course with a 42, Robert House had a score of 43, and Cory Claywell ended the day with a 45.

West County (0-4 and 0-3 MAAA) will visit Fredericktown on Tuesday. North County (2-1 and 2-1 MAAA) will host Ste. Genevieve the same day.

Arcadia Valley 159, Ste. Genevieve 185

ARCADIA – The Arcadia Valley Tigers are still undefeated after Thursday’s match against conference foe Ste. Genevieve Dragons. Arcadia Valley made good on their home course by the score of 159-185.

Arcadia Valley’s Jordan McLaurin was the medalist for the match as he finished with a 35. Chris Spitzmiller wasn’t too far behind McLaurin as he finished with a 38. Blaine Dunivan and Abe Warren both ended the day with a 43.

Ste. Genevieve’s Kyle Stolzer recorded the lowest score for his club with a 42. Aaron Derousse finished the course with a 43 and Justin Kertz shot a 48. D.J. Gegg had a 52 on the day.

The Tigers (4-0 and 3-0 MAAA) will travel to Potosi on Tuesday. The Dragons (1-4 and 1-2 MAAA) will visit North County the same day.

Potosi 176, Valle 193

POTOSI – Brett DeClue matched par at Fourche Valley to lead the Potosi Trojans to a 176-193 win over the Valle Warriors. Sean Martin scoed a 41, and Ryan Portell had a 47. Brittany Chazelle’s 52 rounded out the Potosi total.

Keith Basler had the low score for the Warriors with a 43. Kolby Armbruster shot a 44, Mitchell Davis made a 51, and Dan Rozier scored a 55.

Valle, 1-6 and 04 MAAA, will be on the links again this afternoon at home against the Festus Tigers. Potosi, 4-2 and 2-1 MAAA, will be at home on Tuesday to host Arcadia Valley.

Warrenton Invitational

WARRENTON – Two local golf teams were among a field of 23 high schools competing at the Warrenton Invitational on Thursday. The Fredericktown Blackcats finished in a tie for 14th with a team total of 344, while the Central Rebels placed 19th with 376.

Kevin Foster fired a round of 81 on the par 70 course to lead the Fredericktown contingent. Clay Street finished with a score of 83 and Chase Dunham posted an 85. Mike Underwood rounded out the team score with a 95 and Adam Cooper ended the day with a 98.

The Blackcats made solid improvement from one year ago when they posted a score of 363 in this event.

Central received a team-best round of 84 from Keith Huff, who birdied the 14th hole along the way. Other scores contributing to the Rebels’ total were a 90 from Grayson Clark, a 99 from Jimmy Guinn and a 103 from Brad Burgess. Will McDowell enjoyed a birdie on the par-3 10th on his way to a round of 105.

St. Francis Borgia won the tournament with a collective score of 299. Francis Howell was runner-up with 304 and Washington placed third with 313. Each school entered five players and combined the best four scores to form its team total.

Fredericktown will take part in the Mid-East Invitational on Monday, while Central hits the road to battle Herculaneum.
