Police arrest man for holding girl against her will

IRON MOUNTAIN LAKE – An Iron Mountain Lake man was arrested Monday for holding a 15-year-old girl against her will. According to Iron Mountain Lake Police Chief James Powell, the man was arrested for false imprisonment, but he could possibly be charged with felonious restraint.

“I was actually on another call when a resident came up to me and said an area girl was missing,” Powell said. “The resident said they thought that the girl’s father had an idea of where the girl was.”

Powell said the father discovered his daughter was missing upon returning home for a work item.

“Evidently the family had been having some trouble with the man for some time,” Powell said. “While I was trying to locate the suspect, the father found his daughter and the suspect at an abandoned house on East Lake Shore Drive.”

When the father arriving at the house, the suspect stuck his head out the door.

“The father told the man to let go of his daughter and the man said that she didn’t want to go with him,” Powell said. “At the same time this conversation was taking place the girl was trying to get through the door to get away from the suspect. The girl did manage to get away and the suspect fled into a wooded area.”

Powell said he received a tip later on Monday that the suspect was in Irondale walking back toward Bismarck.

“I took the girl’s father with me because I needed him to identify the suspect,” Powell said. “We found him riding in a truck so I pulled the truck over. It turned out that the suspect had hitched a ride with the driver of the truck. The driver did not have any other connection to the suspect other than giving him a ride.”

Powell said that upon delivering the suspect to the St. Francois County Jail, it was discovered that the man had outstanding warrants for his arrest in Iron County and in Herculaneum.
