DAR Learns About Extension Office

Celeste Vanderbrugen of the Madison County University of Missouri Extension Office recently spoke to the Capt. Henry Whitener Chap. DAR at their April meeting. Celeste explained some of the duties and the benefits of the local Extension office. The Extension Office is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the people of Madison County improve their lives and their community. This is achieved through programs in education, training and more. The office is located at 137 W. Main St. in Fredericktown, MO. Celeste invited everyone to stop in and visit. Jean Priday, a member of the Extension Council was also present. The program made the members more aware of the Extension Council and what it has to offer the residents of Madison County.

There were ten members present at the meeting and four visitors. The members attending were Judy Mahal, regent, Cecille Tuller, vice-regent, Doris McMillian, treasurer, Virginia Wilson, secretary, Edna Erwin, Willa Dean Combs, Edna Hillis, Thelma Sikes, Nancy Elayer, and Betty Umfleet. The four visitors were Celeste Vanderbrugen, Jean Priday, Anne Combs, and Cora Stephens.

The chapter donated food or money to the Madison County Food Bank and the Wayne County Food Bank. Donations of items to be used in baskets for the Azalea Festival were also collected.

Henry Whitener Chapter DAR is sponsoring a Genealogy Workshop to be held at the Ozark Regional Library in Fredericktown on South Main St. It is free and anyone interested in attending or wanting more information on the workshop should contact Edna Hillis at 783-6037, or Thelma Sikes at 783-6238.
