Federal court sentences Droney on child porn

A Park Hills man was sentenced in federal court to 37 months in prison for possession of child pornography.

According to the office of James G. Martin, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, 23-year-old Scott Droney was sentenced last week.

Droney pleaded guilty to the charge in January and could have been sentenced to a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

According to the court records, in December of 2001, as a result of a federal search warrant, Droney’s computer was found to contain numerous images of child pornography.

Droney is already serving a life sentence from another case.

In September, Droney was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Kenneth W. Pratte to life in prison on a statutory sodomy charge for molesting a 4-year-old girl.

During sentencing, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Bill Backer said Droney told authorities he was sexually attracted to children and there could have been more victims if he had not been arrested. He also said he had been watching children at local parks.

“This was a despicable crime and I think the punishment is well-deserved,” Judge Pratte said to Droney after sentencing him to life.
