Fredericktown man in custody after high-speed chase

A Fredericktown man accused of exposing himself on the highway led police on a high-speed chase along Karsch Boulevard Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the 30-year-old man was arrested for sexual misconduct and 10 traffic citations from Leadington and St. Francois County. Police took the man to St. Francois County Jail on Saturday, where he was being held on a $1,500 cash or surety bond. Charges are pending.

According to reports, Leadington police received a call about 1:50 p.m. from people complaining that a man in a Kia minivan had exposed himself while stopped at the Orchard interchange on U.S. 67. Leadington police spotted the vehicle on the highway in Leadington and tried to pull it over, Police Sgt. Rick Pogue said.

The driver sped up and police pursued the vehicle south on U.S. 67 onto Karsch Boulevard. Pogue said the driver reached speeds of more than 100 mph, and drove on the shoulders and through red lights in an attempt to escape pursuing officers from Leadington and St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department.

Police stopped the vehicle at Route OO and arrested the driver. No one was injured during the chase.
