Yellow Jackets, Raiders win Bantam games

FARMINGTON – The Potosi Yellow Jackets came out of the gates hard against the Farmington Rattlers on Monday. A big first inning for the Yellow Jackets eventually landed them an 11-0 victory over the Rattlers.

With one out and the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, Colby Eckhoff nailed a double to drive in Potosi’s first run of the game. Three1 walks and a hit batsman scored four more runs for the Yellow Jackets. A single from Luke Jacobsen drove in another run as Potosi quickly held a 6-0 advantage.

Another Potosi batter was hit by a pitch in the top of the second inning. The Yellow Jackets made the Rattlers pay as a single from Colby Eckhoff and a double by Dylan Eckhoff added to Potosi’s lead. Austin Cooley drilled a triple to score two more runs for a 9-0 game.

Back-to-back singles from Brendan McCoy and Dylan Coleman and a fielder’s choice play placed two men in scoring position in the top of the third inning. Colby Eckhoff’s third hit of the day was a double that drove both baserunners home. This gave Potosi all they needed to end the game in four innings.

The Yellow Jackets (3-0) will travel to Park Hills to take on the Wolves on Friday. The Rattlers (1-1) will visit the Leadwood Titans the same day.

Raiders 5, Mustangs 1

The Desloge Raiders improved to 1-1 after their Monday victory over the Farmington Mustangs. The contest remained scoreless after two innings, but Desloge had a five-run spurt in the third inning which eventually led to a 5-1 win.

With two men on base and no outs for the Raiders in the top of the third inning, Seth Tiefenauer made a RBI single to give the Raiders the lead. A single from Tyler Cassidy doubled their lead. After a drawn walk, Tanner Aubuchon hit a double to force a pair of runs across the plate. Patrick Mahurin crushed a double to add one more tally for the Raiders.

Things turned out to be a little scary for Desloge in the bottom of the fifth inning. Two walks and a single from Brandt Busenbark jammed the bases with only one out. Garrett Callahan drew a walk to prevent a shut-out. Tiefenauer struck out the next two batters to finish the game.

The Raiders will be back in action on Friday when they visit the Bonne Terre Bombers. The Mustangs (2-1) will host the Park Hills Gators the same day.
