Chamber names Camp as parade grand marshal

DESLOGE – The Desloge Chamber of Commerce has announced that Greg Camp will serve as the 2005 Desloge Labor Day Parade grand marshal. This year’s Labor Day Picnic marks the event’s 25th Anniversary.

Camp served as the mayor of Desloge from 2000 until April of this year. Camp decided not run for re-election in the April election.

Prior to becoming the mayor of Desloge, Camp served as an alderman. After the death of former mayor Gene Bray in the spring of 2000, Camp was appointed to the position of mayor. Camp served under the appointment for 11 months and then was elected to consecutive two-year terms in 2001 and in 2003.

“I am honored,” Camp said. “I was a little surprised by the chamber’s announcement. Desloge is something that is near and dear to my heart. The Labor Day Picnic is always a good time. The chamber does a great job in putting it on. It’s a great way to showcase the City of Desloge.”

The Desloge Chamber of Commerce also announced it will be hosting its annual Poker Run on July 16. Sign-up for the event will be from 3-4 p.m. at the Desloge City Park. The cost is $55 per hand. The top three hands will be awarded prizes.

The first stop of the run will be at the Dairy Queen in Ste. Genevieve. The second stop will be at the Festus White Castle and the third will be at the Brown Citgo in Potosi. All riders must be back at the Desloge City Park by 8 p.m. in order to get their last card.
