Rockers, choppers and a dollhouse to fight cancer

Get ready to rock! The Music Unlimited Rockers team raising money for the Relay For Life of St. Francois County will host a Rock-A-Thon June 11 at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Desloge.

To the appropriate music – rock, of course – they’ll have rocking chairs set up and team members will rock and take donations between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Team Captain Ellen Berry said for $1, passersby can request a song. They can also buy popcorn or pay to have their faces painted.

The money raised goes to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life to be held July 22-23 at Mineral Area College.

The team will also take donations toward a Worthington Doll House they will give away. The house was made by two-time cancer survivor Don Jaster of Bonne Terre and his wife Flo who is battling cancer. Dollar donations will also be taken for 12 scale models of the Orange County Choppers to be given away.

“If anyone watches ‘American Chopper’ on the Discovery Channel, they will recognize the name ‘Orange County Chopper,’ Berry explained. “They are custom motorcycles created and fabricated by a father and son.”

The choppers and the doll house will be given away at the Relay.

Also on June 11 at 206 North School Street in Desloge, the “Beading The Odds” team will host a rummage sale featuring a battery-operated car, cribs, child’s pool table, household items, baby items, and clothing for children and adults. The proceeds go to the Relay For Life.
