Cubs win one, lose one in Junior Babe Ruth play

EDITOR’S NOTE: The below games were called in too late for Saturday’s edition of the Daily Journal.

POTOSI – The Potosi Pumas salvaged more playing time by tying up the game in their last at-bats in regulation play. The extension was well-rewarded as the Pumas won the game in the ninth inning by a score of 8-7.

R.J. Lawson led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a base hit. Lawson put himself in scoring position with two stolen bases, and then was driven in on a single by Nathan Boyer.

Colin Juliette pitched the last three innings for the Pumas to get the win. Juliette struck out six Cubs’ batters.

Lawson’s single in the ninth was just a capper for a great night at the plate. Lawson had three singles and a triple in the game. Boyer had a triple to go with his game-winning single, and Juliette, Brandon Kipper and Brad Coleman had one single each for the Pumas.

Kyle Rhoden scored three runs for Potosi without a hit. Rhoden walked three times and was also hit by a pitch.
