Raiders stay perfect in 13-year-old league play

LEADWOOD — The Desloge Raiders cruised to a pair of victories in MABA 13-year-old league action in Leadwood on Saturday. The Raiders followed a 13-3 triumph over the Marlins in the opener with a 13-0 shutout in the second contest.

Derek Emily struck out four batters and scattered three hits over five innings to earn the win in game one. Cody Mahurin finished up with three strikeouts in two scoreless frames.

Nate Maeys had a huge first game, collecting six RBI while going 4-for-4 at the plate. Sam Hulsey, Caleb Boyer and Emily each had singles for the Raiders (6-0). The three hits for the Marlins (2-2) came from Trevor Kean, Chad Alcorn and Caleb Davis.

Game two was extra special for Desloge, because pitchers Seth Caldwell and Tanner Beers combined for a five-inning perfect game with six strikeouts. Caldwell and Beers each had singles in the game as well.

Aaron Parker went 2-for-2 with five RBI to lead the Raider offense. Maeys connected for a home run, Brian Jaco smacked a triple, and Emily and Mahurin each added singles.

The same two teams will hook up again for another double-header at Brightwell Park in Desloge on Saturday.

FARMINGTON — The Farmington Blue Jays also turned a daily double at home for their first two victories of the season on Saturday. Strong pitching propelled the Blue Jays to a 14-4 decision in game one, and a 15-4 final in game two.

Ethan Bullard went 3-for-3 with a triple, and was also the winning pitcher for Farmington (2-2) in the opener. Bullard pitched all five innings with six strikeouts and six hits allowed.

Chris Lenz was an offensive standout for the Blue Jays by going 4-for-4. John Schnurbusch and Andrew Johnson each chipped in two hits including a double. Kohl Lewis had a triple and was 3-for-3 to highlight the game for the Astros (0-6), who also received two hits from Jordan Pace.

Colton Pigg dominated on the mound in the nightcap, striking out six while surrendering just two hits. Pigg also had a pair of singles at the plate.

Pete Grindel went 4-for-5 with a double in a strong game for the Blue Jays. Bullard collected two doubles and Mike Harp singled twice.

The Blue Jays and Astros will battle in two more games at Park Hills on Saturday.
