Passenger killed in fatal accident

LEADINGTON – A two-vehicle accident Sunday morning resulted in the death of a Leadington woman. Thelma Volner, 78, Leadington, died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

According to the Leadington Police Department, the accident occurred on Woodlawn Drive at the intersection of Highway 32. A vehicle driven by Shirley Radford, 70, Doe Run, was traveling westbound on Woodlawn Drive and was going through the intersection at Highway 32. A truck driven by Johnathan Fitzgerald, 19, Imperial, was traveling along Highway 32 and collided with the side of Radford’s vehicle. The collision pushed Radford’s vehicle sideways into the stop light post at the intersection.

Volner was a passenger in Radford’s vehicle and was transported to Mineral Area Regional Medical Center by St. Francois County Ambulance. Volner sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Radford was also transported to Mineral Area Regional Medical Center by St. Francois County Ambulance. Radford was treated for injuries and has been released.

In an unrelated accident this morning, a two-vehicle accident on Highway 21 in Washington County sent two people to the hospital.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by Ervin Moon, 64, Bonne Terre, skidded through a stop sign and struck a vehicle driven by Larry Harmon, 57, Potosi, in the broad side.

Moon suffered minor injuries and was taken to Washington County Hospital by Washington County Ambulance. Georgiann Moon, 61, Bonne Terre, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Washington County Hospital by Washington County Ambulance.
