MABA 15-year-old squad ready for state play after winning district

FRANKCLAY – After dropping the first game of the 15-year-old MABA District Tournament on July 16, the MABA Nationals rallied back to win back-to-back games against the MABA Americans on July 17.

The MABA Nationals lost the July 16 game to the MABA Americans 11-4. However, on Sunday the Nationals’ bats came alive, scoring 34 runs in two games.

The Nationals defeated the Americans 17-11 in the first game. Matt Bone picked up the win, pitching six innings and striking out 10. Joey Coale pitched the final inning and struck out the side.

Joe Fahland and Bone led the Nationals at the plate with two singles and a double each. Ethan Sitton had a double and a single while Cody Huff had a pair of singles. Jake Gidden had a double and a single.

The Nationals defeated the Americans in the second game 17-4. Nick Howlett was the winning pitcher for the Nationals. Howlett pitched seven innings and struck out eight batters.

Fahland was the leading hitter for the Nationals with five hits. Matt Edgar, Howlett, Huff, Bone, Sitton and Gidden also had hits.

The Nationals will face off against Kirksville today at noon in the 15-year-old state tournament at Boonville.
