Last Twilight Thursday event tonight

Farmington will see plenty of red when firemen from six area fire departments gather downtown for the last Twilight Thursday event this evening.

Twilight Thursdays, sponsored by the Downtown Development Association, have been held every Thursday in July with special themes planned for each evening. Residents have had plenty of opportunities to participate in everything from a hula hoop contest, a parade featuring pets of all kinds, and even a rare treat, watching two classic black-and-white films from the private collection of local resident and business owner Jon Cozean.

Tonight’s festivities begin at 6:15 p.m. and will be held around the courtsquare and feature area firemen, including Farmington’s own squad, competing in a Fireman’s Challenge. Jefferson and West Columbia streets will close at 5 p.m. For the kids, Freddie the Firetruck and McGruff the Crime Dog are scheduled to make appearances at the event, and plenty of hot dogs and lemonade will be served to those attending. The Fireman’s Challenge is sponsored by Ozarks Federal Savings & Loan, Jennie Annie’s and Krekeler’s of Farmington.

Janet Douglas, director of DDA, expresses her appreciation for all who have sponsored and participated at Twilight Thursday events. “I really appreciate their hard work and effort that they’ve put into the events,” she said. “Those who’ve attended have enjoyed it immensely.” She credits U.S. Bank, Forget-Me-Not Gifts, First State Community Bank, Music Makers, New Era Bank, Cozean Memorial Chapel, Farmington Fire Department, Ozarks Federal Savings & Loan, Jennie Annie’s and Krekeler Jeweler’s for being the sponsors of the four Twilight Thursday events and for making the events successful in bringing more local and area residents to downtown Farmington.

Twilight Thursday events are free and open to the public.
