All-Stars win first game at Regionals

HASTINGS, NB – The 13-year-old All-Stars played their first game of the Midwest Plains Regional Tournament on Saturday and came up 11-1 winners over the Iowa team. The All-Stars are Missouri’s representative in the tournament.

Ethan Bullard was the winning pitcher. Bullard threw five innings, striking out seven batters, and allowing only one run on six hits and one walk.

The All-Stars started their scoring in the first inning after Nate Maeys reached base on a fielder’s choice and Bullard knocked him in and Parker singled to drive in Bullard.

In the third inning, Derek Emily singled and Maeys drove him in with a double. Bullard then doubled, and Parker hit a two-RBI single. Iowa scored their lone run on three straight singles in the fourth inning.

Sam Hulsey and Emily both drew walks to start off the fourth Maeys hit a sacrifice fly to score Hulsey and Emily scored on a passed ball. Britt Block doubled to start off the sixth inning. Calvird singled, and Cody Mahurin drove in Block with a single. Jake Smith doubled to drive in Calvird and Caleb Boyer singled in the winning run for a 10-run win.

Calvird was 3-3 in the game, Bullard had a single and a double, and Parker hit two singles and had three RBI.

The All-Stars will face the winner of the Colorado/Hastings, NB game at 8 p.m. tonight.
