Phoenix Rising performs at annual event

DESLOGE – Three days and counting until the 25th Annual Desloge Labor Day Picnic officially begins Friday. The Desloge Chamber of Commerce announced on Monday that its mystery band for Friday will be “Phoenix Rising”, a rock band from Bonne Terre. The band will be performing from 6-9 p.m.

Friday at the Labor Day Picnic is known as “Family Night.” Wristbands can be purchased for unlimited carnival rides between 6-10 p.m. on Friday. Wristbands can be purchased in advance for $10 apiece at the chamber office, the Desloge Wal-Mart Supercenter, Leadco Community Credit Union and at the Park Hills First State Community Bank. Wristbands can be purchased on Sept. 2 at the picnic for $12 apiece.

No alcohol will be served on Family Night.

Desloge Chamber of Commerce President Debbie Kester said the rationale for not serving alcohol on Friday night is because things are hectic enough on the first day of the picnic and by not offering alcohol it stays with the “Family Night” theme.

“This is the second year we have had the “Family Night,” said Kester. “It offers an chance for people to come out and ride the carnival rides cheaper and gives an opportunity for people to come and see what we have to offer.”

Kester said in the days leading up to the picnic, things are getting hectic.

“We are going to make it,” Kester said. “The weather is supposed to be wonderful. The temperatures should be cool so everyone will be able to come out and enjoy the picnic.”
