DNR Director to Speak at Fourth Friday Sept. 23

Doyle Childers, director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, will speak at Mineral Area College’s Fourth Friday luncheon Sept. 23.

The Fourth Friday Club Luncheon is held in the North College Center on MAC’s Park Hills campus. The catered lunch is $7 per person, and begins at 11:45 a.m.

Reservations are required and should be made to Peggy Gillespie, (573) 518-2146, no later than noon Monday.

The title of Childers’ remarks is “A Look at DNR through the Cloudy Crystal Ball of Perception and Reality.” He will address the agency’s role in protecting Missouri’s natural resources and how the agency is working to improve its image and relationship with Missouri citizens and businesses.

Childers, a former chemistry and physics teacher, farmer, and businessman, served four and a half years in the United States Peace Corps in Central America. He is also involved in housing construction.

Childers served the 132nd and the 141st District in the Missouri House of Representatives for seven consecutive terms (1982 through l996) and the 29th District in the Missouri State Senate for eight years (1997 through 2004).

Childers is a fifth-generation Missourian born on the family farm near Ironton Nov. 24, l944. He attended Arcadia Valley High School and the College of the Ozarks with graduate work at Southwest Missouri State University. He is married to Sue Goller Childers.
