‘Raiders to the Rescue’

They are calling it “Raiders to the Rescue.”

It’s North County students’ way of helping out the victims of Hurricane Katrina and each school in the district is participating in their own way.

The Bonne Terre Elementary School is raising money through different fund-raisers.

Members of the Bonne Terre Elementary School student council are having a coin drive that will wrap up on Sept. 23. The money raised will go to the Warner Brothers’ Hurricane relief Fund. Warner Brothers is matching all donations.

The school is also selling North County Homecoming T-shirts for $7 through Sept. 19. Proceeds will also benefit the relief fund.

Breyanne Reed and Sarah VanZee, coordinators of the fund-raiser, said so far the fund-raiser is going really well. As of Friday, they had received about 155 orders for T-shirts.

Reed said the community has been really good about helping out. The teachers believed about $1,000 had already been raised in the coin drive.

Bonne Terre Elementary is also sponsoring a trivia night fund-raiser at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 to benefit the victims of the hurricane. The entry fee is $10 per person with teams of eight to 10 people. For more information, call the school at 358-3600.

The middle school and the intermediate school are having a contest to see which school can raise the most money for Hurricane Katrina relief funds.

At the intermediate school, the goal is to raise $3,000 in 30 days. There is also a contest between classrooms to see who can raise the most.

The middle school cheerleaders are also collecting clothing for those affected by the hurricane. Some clothing has already been distributed to families who have moved to this area from the affected areas.

Desloge Elementary School students are also having a coin drive. They will also be having a toy drive for the children affected by Hurricane Katrina. They will also be selling Homecoming T-shirts.

Several of the high school clubs are having various kinds of fund-raisers for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The student council will be selling T-shirts and plans to participate in a challenge with Farmington High School to see who can raise the most money.
