Emu returns home to owner

DESLOGE – An exotic animal that was loose on the streets of Desloge has been reunited with its owner. City officials confirmed on Wednesday that an emu that was sighted Monday walking down a street near Chestnut Drive was returned to its owner who lives on Pratte Road.

Desloge Police Chief James Bullock said the neck injury that the emu suffered turned out to be a superficial wound and that the exotic animal is doing just fine.

Several Desloge residents noticed the emu walking down the streets of Desloge. Officers and animal control secured the injured bird in a garage that was offered by John Hartley, who lives in that area.

The bird was kept in the garage until it was returned to its owner.
