Rep. Tilley announced run for second term

106th District State Representative Dr. Steven Tilley, R-Perryville, has announced his intention to seek re-election for a second term. He was elected in 2004, and will complete his first term in 2006.

&#8220I have enjoyed my time in the House, and we were able to accomplish many objectives, but there is more to be done,” said Tilley. &#8220We need to focus on encouraging economic growth and development, ensure every child has access to quality education and strive to make state government more efficient when spending our tax dollars.”

During Tilley’s first term there were many significant pieces of legislation passed. Among those were workers compensation reform, legal reform and the re-writing of the educational formula. The new formula will result in an additional 4 million dollars per year, to the Farmington school district when it is fully phased in.

According to Third District Senator Kevin Engler, R-Farmington, Rep. Tilley has already had an impact. &#8220I was pleased to have Representative Tilley take my seat in the House. He is hard working, thoughtful, and accessible to his constituents. He has certainly represented our area well. Representative Tilley had an exceptional freshman year in the legislature, and has become a leader in Jefferson City. I expect great things from him in the future.”

Representative Tilley sponsored several pieces of legislation that were signed into law in his first year and was named Freshman Legislator of the Year.

U.S. Eighth District Congresswomen JoAnn Emerson feels Tilley is the right man for the job.

&#8220Representative Tilley is a hard worker that listens well, and follows thru on the needs of his constituents. We are fortunate to have him in state government, and I support him 100 percent.”

Dr. Tilley has worked for the past several years as an optometrist with his main office located in Perryville.
