MAC volleyball player injured in accident

An accident in South St. Louis County injured two Mineral Area College volleyball players Wednesday.

Volleyball Coach Tim Copeland said Tiara Boyer, a sophomore from Park Hills, and Chelsey Morris, a freshman from Bismarck, received some pretty serious injuries when a jeep they were riding in was struck by a 18-wheeler Wal-Mart truck head-on near the mall in South County.

Copeland said Boyer, 19, suffered from bruised ribs, a collapsed lung, a broken collarbone and other bruises and cuts.

Morris, 18, who was thrown from the vehicle, received a few lacerations and hit her head pretty hard on the pavement.

Copeland said Morris’ brother was in the front passenger seat and his friend was driving. Both men also received serious injuries. The driver was reportedly flown to Saint Louis University Hospital.

Copeland said both of the girls were conscious and Morris was in pretty good spirits within a few hours following the accident.

He said they will probably have to remain in the hospital for a few days because they both had head injuries.

&#8220They were banged up pretty bad … but it could have been a lot worse,” he said.
