James Mabery

ARKANSAS – James Eugene Mabery, 76, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, died Friday, December 23, 2005. He was born in Flat River, MO, the son of Leo and Edna Maybery of Bonne Terre, MO.

At 18, he committed his life to sharing the message of Jesus Christ and did this for the next 58 years. He was married to Ina Lee Smith. She preceded him in death in 2000, after 50 years of marriage. He served as minister to congregations in southeast Missouri and in the St. Louis area. In 1967, he moved to Chillicothe, MO.

He was known for having a passion for evangelism at home and abroad. His work in missions extending from Juarez, Mexico, to Ghana, West Africa. In 1988, his wife retired from teaching and the family relocated to Hot Springs Village to work with the Village Church of Christ. In 1998, he retired from the pulpit but continued to work in many ministries. In April 2003, he married Charlotte Land Worley.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Worley, two daughters, Diane Fergadis and Gail Northen, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; two sons, Chris Mabery and Lance Mabery of Jessieville, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; siblings, Bob Mabery of Cape Girardeau, Janet Lemon of San Diego, CA, and Sheila Blackwell of Farmington, MO; brother-in-law, Linn Smith of Brookport, IL.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Delane Mabery.

A celebration of life was held Saturday, December 31, 2005 at the Village Church of Christ, Hot Springs, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions my be made to the Jim Maybery Mission Fund, Village Church of Christ.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cedarvale Funeral Home, Hot Springs, Arkansas.
