Lady Cats finish second in large-school MAAA

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Fredericktown Lady Cats played their last conference game this season at Ste. Genevieve on Monday. Fredericktown came out strong and took a 38-13 lead at the half. The Lady Cats finished with a dominating 54-35 win. The win gave Fredericktown second place in large-school conference play.

Amy Hendrix posted a game-high 14 points for the Lady Cats, and Courtney Kemp chipped in 12. Fredericktown Betsy Royer contributed nine points and six rebounds, and Deidre Hughes added nine boards. Sarah Flieg, Stephanie Rector, and Lindsay Rhodes all scored seven points for the Hunters.

Fredericktown, now 16-3 and 4-1 large-school MAAA, will visit De Soto on Friday. Ste. Genevieve (13-5, 2-3 in conference play) will travel to Woodland on Thursday.

Valley 40, Kingston 21

CALEDONIA – The Valley Lady Vikings played well in Monday’s conference game against the Kingston Lady Cougars. Valley took a 40-21 lead after the third quarter, and the Lady Vikings finished with a 44-31 victory.

Valley’s Sarah Kearns led all scorers with 23 points, and Kylie White added nine. Kearns had 13 steals for a double-double. Brittnay Turnbull finished with a team-high eight points for the Lady Cougars. The Lady Vikings were 7-10 from the free-throw line.

Valley, now 3-14 and 2-8 in conference play, will host Lesterville on Thursday at 6 p.m. Kingston (0-13, 0-10 small-school MAAA) will visit Steelville on Wednesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

St. Clair 56, Potosi 43

POTOSI – The Potosi Trojans came out flat against St. Clair in the first quarter. Potosi trailed 12-4 after the first quarter, but the Trojans made more of their shots and took a 20-15 lead at the half. After an even third quarter, St. Clair knocked down several free throws and finished with a 56-43 win.

Jeremy Brown led Potosi with 16 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double. Tim Pashia added seven points for the Trojans. St. Clair’s Jordan Flora posted a game-high 18 points with five three pointers, and Zeke Schupp contributed 15 points.

Potosi (10-8) will host Fredericktown for a conference match-up tonight.
