Ste. Genevieve man charged with murder
A 25-year-old Ste. Genevieve man has been charged with the murder of Hispanic male that occurred in New Madrid County. The body of Sergio Burgos Gonzalez, 36, Edinburg, Texas, was found on April 22 in Mississippi County near East Prairie. Michael D. Meador, 25, Ste. Genevieve, has been charged in New Madrid County with first-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence, and trafficking in drugs.
Meador is being held in the New Madrid County Jail without bond. A second person has also been charged with Gonzalez’s death. Dennis Dinwiddie a 28-year-old male, of Louisville, KY, has been charged in New Madrid County with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Dinwiddie is in custody with no bond. The investigation is continuing. The Missouri State Highway Patrol has said further arrests are expected.
Investigators determined the homicide occurred in New Madrid County, in the Village of Rainbow City. The body of Gonzalez was found in Mississippi County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Gonzalez had been shot multiple times. The patrol also said Gonzalez had been involved in illegal drug trafficking in the area.
The arrests were the result of a joint investigation conducted by the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi County Coroner’s office, New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Texas law enforcement agencies, Tennessee law enforcement agencies and the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control.
