Walker milestone highlights Lady Tigers’ fourth straight win

IRONTON – On a Tuesday night when junior Kassie Walker eclipsed a personal milestone, the Arcadia Valley girls basketball team rolled to a decisive 74-39 home win over North County.

Walker, a two-time all-conference and all-region standout, posted 20 points on the night to surpass the 1,000 mark for her high school career.

Three other Lady Tigers reached double figures as Loren Goggin had 19 points, Gail Williams added 11, and Megan Reichert scored 10. Stephanie Riordan connected three times from three-point range for nine points.

Megan Hedgcorth and Jamie Bullock led North County (3-5) with 10 points each, and Mandy Weible added eight.

Arcadia Valley (5-1) will face South Iron in the opening round of the Central Christmas Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Raiders will also see action on that day at Meadow Heights.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Bismarck 50, Arcadia Valley 41

BISMARCK – The Bismarck Indians used a balanced scoring attack and a strong fourth quarter at home to outlast Arcadia Valley, 50-41 on Tuesday night.

Bobby Clifton scored a game-high 18 points in the post, while guards Tim Lincoln and Mike Franklin added 13 and 10 points, respectively for the Indians (3-5). Kyle Cole enjoyed a good night on the boards with 13 rebounds.

Victor James paced the Tigers with 16 points, and Dereck Wilson hit a trio of three-pointers to score 13 points, while Thomas Jackson finished with eight.

The teams were separated on the scoreboard by one possession after each of the first three quarters before Bismarck posted a 20-14 margin in the fourth. Arcadia Valley (3-6) entered halftime with a 20-19 advantage.

Valley 81, Kingston 48

CALEDONIA – The Valley Vikings ensured themselves of a winning record entering the holiday break with an 81-48 victory over visiting Kingston on Tuesday night.

Junior Steven Price delivered a breakout performance with 24 points for Valley (5-3), and John Tedder knocked down four three-pointers to finish with 16 points. Tony Radford connected on three triples to match Aaron Dickey with 13 points.

Nathan Boyer had an impressive outing for Kingston with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Larry Lemons chipped in 10 points and four assists. The Cougars (0-7) will face a difficult challenge at Ste. Genevieve on Thursday.

LEADWOOD – The West County boys basketball team improved its current win streak to five games on Tuesday night with a 65-45 conference home win over Valle.

Sophomore Coby Lewis collected a game-high 19 points to lead the Bulldogs (7-1). Corey Whelehon controlled the paint for 17 points, and Terry Moore scored 16. West County will battle Ste. Genevieve next Wednesday in the opening round of the Central Christmas Tournament.

Kyle Basler scored 13 points to lead Valle (1-7), which closes out a busy week of basketball at Saxony Lutheran on Thursday.

Sullivan 69, Central 58

PARK HILLS – The Central Rebels continued their winless drought at home on Tuesday night after dropping a 69-58 decision to Sullivan in a non-conference make-up game.

Brian Gross scored 20 points, Jimmy Thompson chipped in 18, and Aaron Bates tallied 11 for Central (2-7), which received all of its scoring from the starting five. The Rebels will battle Farmington in Central Christmas Tournament action next Tuesday.

Sullivan was led in scoring by sophomore center Cody Davis with 20 points, while Alex Berti added 11.
