Bonne Terre considers speed limits for Commercial traffic

Speed limits for commercial vehicles will be among the topics discussed at the Bonne Terre City Council meeting Tuesday.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at 6 p.m. at the Bonne Terre Memorial Library, located at 5 S.W. Main. The meeting had been originally scheduled for Feb. 6 but was postponed due to the winter weather.

The council will discuss the approval of a new ordinance related to restricted speed limits for commercial vehicles at or above 15,000 pounds. The council will also discuss a new ordinance with restrictions on truck traffic.

The police department and the Church Street Committee both recommended a reduction in the speed limit for commercial vehicles.

Other items on the agenda include discussion of an ordinance pertaining to right-of-way solicitations, contributions and distribution of literature.

The council will hear an additional request from Brandon Hubbard for Hubs Pub, 10 South Dover Street; a request from Cathy Nowicki for a liquor by the drink license at 803 Benham; and a request for a budget revision from the Bonne Terre Nutritional Center.

The council will also hear a presentation from Carl Brown Consulting on a sewer rate analysis. The city hired Brown in September to conduct a sewer rate analysis before deciding how to go about funding Department of Natural Resources-mandated sewer system improvements.
