Man dies as result of accident earlier this month

A Bonne Terre man has died as the result of a vehicle crash that occurred earlier this month.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, William S. Basler, 78, was pronounced dead Monday afternoon at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

Reports indicate Basler was driving on Interstate 55 near Fruitland in Cape Girardeau County when his vehicle skidded off the roadway and overturned March 3.

In a separate accident, Bruce E. Cortez, 31, of Farmington, received minor injuries.

According to patrol reports, he was taken to Parkland Health Center. The report indicates he failed to negotiate a curve on U.S. 67 near Parkway Drive. His vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned.

The accident was reported at 11:05 a.m. Monday.
