New principal at Central West Elementary
PARK HILLS — Central West Elementary will have a new principal next year. The school board voted Monday to hire Keith Groom to replace Steve Alexander who is retiring at the end of this school year.
“I think Keith (Groom) will be a good fit for our district,” said Central Superintendent Dr. Dave Stevens. “He is the principal at Lesterville and is actually a graduate of North County. So he has local ties. We are going to miss Mr. Alexander, though. He has been a tremendous asset to us over the years and we wish him the best in his retirement.”
The board also voted to hire P.J. Jones as an industrial technology teacher for the 2007-2008 school year. Jones will also serve as an assistant football coach. Jones currently teaches at North County.
The board certified the April 3 election results. David Gross and James Sherrill were sworn in as board members.
Several students were recognized during Monday’s meeting. Summer Kenney was recognized for winning the state championship in public speaking as part of the JAG program. Brad Glore, the Central high school band instructor, was also on hand to unveil the band’s new uniforms to the board.
The lone new business item was selecting which paper supplier to go with for the 2007-2008 school year. The board decided to go with Mineral Area Office Supply.
