The American Cancer Society provided direct services to Heartland Division and their Southern Missouri Region.
Each year the Heartland Division provides resources, information, and services to more than 225,000 cancer patients and their families.
“Look Good Feel Better” sessions for 1,850 women, to help them cope with the physical side effects of treatment, were provided in the Heartland Division last year. 232 sessions were provided in the Kansas and Missouri area.
The American Cancer Society has been involved in many of the major cancer research breakthroughs of the century. Their research: Discovered combination chemotherapy as a successful treatment for childhood leukemia and proved mammography is an effective screening tool for detecting.
Recommendations for individual choices: Maintain a healthy weight throughout life, Balance caloric intake with physical activity, Avoid excessive weight gain throughout life, Achieve and maintain a healthy weight if currently overweight or obese.
